Trip One....Air, Land & Water

Start at dawn (or end at sunset) with a hot air balloon ride (reservations required) as you ascend over the magnificent gorge at Letchworth State Park. After coming back down to earth, enjoy hiking in the park or visit the William Pryor Letchworth Museum.

Get some lunch at a park snack bar, nearby inns or restaurants, and enjoy a rafting trip on the Genesee River (reservations required) or a horse back ride on weekends in season in the park or nearby stables.


Head over to Silver Lake on Route 39 for some relaxing fishing or a party boat. Or bring a canoe or kayak for more water sports. Enjoy dinner in a variety of restaurants.

If water isn't your thing, but you'd like more wonderful nature, head over to Beaver Meadow Audubon Center in North Java on Welch Road. A beautiful new visitor center, marked hiking trails, and ground sculpture are just a few of the delights in store. Take Route 19A north from Letchworth Park exiting at Castile or Portageville, then Route 39 west to Arcade, north on Route 98 to Route 77 north, then east on Welch Road

Trip Two.... Cultural High

Start with the historical Village of Wyoming on Route 19 and visit the boutiques in restored buildings. Check out the Middlebury academy for pioneer artifacts and continue south on Route 19 for a stop at the Gates House for a local history exhibit. Seth Gates was important in the Underground Railroad Movement.

Stop for lunch on the way to Warsaw going south on Route 19. Turn right on Wethersfield Road to view the 213 ft. high windmills with blades 154' in diameter towering above the landscape. Continue west on Wethersfield Road until you meet Route 98. Go south into the village of Arcade

An afternoon excursion on the historic Arcade & Attica Railroad steam train and a tour of the station will thrill railroad buffs. Check schedule for train runs. Stop at the nearby Gibby House in Arcade or at the nearby Sheldon School House Museum in Strykersville on Route 78 (check museum schedule for open days and times).

Head back to Perry on Route 78 east to Route 19 to 19A to 39 north to view an exhibit before 5:00 p.m. at the Arts Council for Wyoming County. If a gallery opening is being held or an evening performance, treat yourself to an absolutely fabulous evening of performing arts (check schedule for happenings). during the summer on Tuesday evenings, lectures on local history are held at Letchworth's State Park's Lower Falls Restaurant. Other great museum stops, depending on the days open, are Wyoming Historical Pioneer Association Log Cabin Museum & Schoolhouse at Silver Lake; Castile Historical Society; Attica Historical Society; Bennington Historical Society; and Java Historical Society.
